FAQs

Below are some answers to frequently asked questions.

  • How many counselling session do I need?
I offer both short and long term therapy sessions. Everyone is different, though on average, I recommend a minimum of 12 sessions to really see lasting change. For complex trauma work, I would recommend a longer term approach of at least 20 sessions. Ultimately, it is entirely up to you and we can review as we go along.
  • Do you offer couples counselling?
No, I only work with individuals.
  • Where are you based?
I'm based at Brinkworth House Business Centre, SN15 5DF. Brinkworth is a village on the outskirts of Swindon, with easy access from Royal Wootton Bassett, Malmesbury and Chippenham. Please see the contact page for a map. There is free onsite parking and toilet facilities within the building. There is also a lift for accessibility but please note, there are a couple of steps to navigate to access my room. I also offer online or telephone counselling nationally.
  • What is the BACP and the UKCP?
Unfortunately, Psychotherapy and Counselling is not under statutory regulation in the United Kingdom. This means that anyone can call themselves a therapist. The BACP and the UKCP are leading membership organisations that set high standards for therapeutic practice. They are rigorous in their requirements and as a member, I am bound by their robust code of ethics. My training course was accredited by both the BACP and the UKCP.
  • Do you offer counselling for children?
No, I only work with adults (18 plus).
  • What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?
I require 48 hours notice of a cancellation, otherwise my full session fee is payable. I require 2 weeks' notice of any planned holiday/absences and I will also give you two weeks notice of my own.
  • How frequent are the counselling sessions?
I typically offer weekly sessions. Occasionally, towards the end of therapy, some clients may request fortnightly sessions. I look at this on a case by case basis depending on my availability. Some people like to have the occasional 'check in' session after their therapy has ended. Again, this is dependent on my availability.
